Summary: The Sérgio Vieira de Mello Chair (CSVM) is an institutional partnership between UNHCR-Brazil and universities in the country, in the areas of teaching, research and outreach. The initiative came to life after the 2003 terrorist attacks in Iraq that killed Sérgio Vieira de Mello, the UN Secretary-General Representative for Iraq and former UNHCR staff member. The CSVM was established at UniSantos in 2007, and, since 2016, is allocated at the Instituto de Pesquisas Científicas e Tecnológicas (IPECI). It is an initiative directly linked to the Post-Graduate Programs (in Law- PPGD, Collective Health – PPGSC, Psychology, Development and Public Policies- PPGPDPP, and Education – PPGE) and to the graduate courses of the University, and it brings together and coordinates all teaching, research and outreach actions in the topics of forced migration, in general, and refuge and the regimes of protection of these population, in particular, at UniSantos. The CSVM at UniSantos aims to be an excellence center in this field, with actions that benefit and engage the students and professors of the University, as well refugees and other forced migrants, thus, having a strong outreach component
Participants: UniSantos post-graduate and graduate Professors; Post-graduate students, and alumni of post-graduate and post-doctoral programs. Graduate students of UniSantos might take part in the events and specific activities, but are not officially part of the CSVM
