Scientific Production

Scientific publications

Besides the individual research and publication of its members, and of the above mentioned research projects, (which include books, book chapters and articles, in Portuguese and in English), the CSVM of UniSantos has been engaged in collective publications, both on its own (such as the 2019 Technical ReportDocumentos para Acesso de Pessoas Refugiadas ao Ensino Superior no Brasil” – Documents for Refugees to Access Higher Education in Brazil) and in partnership with UNHCR (as, for instance, with Liliana Lyra Jubilut being one of the organizers of the 2020 book “15 anos de Cátedra Sérgio Vieira de Mello no Brasil : universidades e pessoas refugiadas– 15 years of Sergio Vieira de Mello Chairs in Brazil: universities and refugees)

Outreach Activities

The CSVM of UniSantos has been undertaking actions to benefit refugees and other migrants, having, for instance, organized donation campaigns focused on food items and hygiene products for NGOs that directly assist this population in São Paulo, and taken part in a campaign to collect and donate children’s books to Venezuelan children in Roraima. The CSVM of UniSantos has also taken part in actions by other local actors aiming to divulge the theme of refugees in the region (for instance, in the 2018 Ação do Coração). The CSVM of UniSantos has also organized events to promote the thematic (detailed in the specific page of “Courses and Events”) among which the organization of two Annual Seminar of the Sergio Vieira de Mello Chairs can be highlighted. The Seminars brought together all institutions that have partnered with UNCHR in this initiative, the first in 2010 (the inaugural seminar) and the second in 2017 (the 8th seminar, which was held in the year of the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Protocolo on the Status of Refugees and of the 20th anniversary of the Brazilian Law on Refugees – Law 9.474/97)

Teaching Activities

The teaching activities of the CSVM of UniSantos happen in two axes: teaching on refuge and teaching for refugees. In the former, there are specific courses on the topic, for instance at the PPGD, and the inclusion of the thematic in graduate courses in several fields of knowledge at the University. In the latter, UniSantos has established not only a specific admissions procedure for refugees but also the granting of up to 3 full scholarships annually since 2012 (with entries from 2013)
